They were standing around the bonfire they built to keep warm and cook on. After cooking their steak and began eating he glanced across the creek and saw a large, black hairy thing. He states it crouched down when it saw him look over and then disappeared. The strange thing is I personally saw something similar about a year ago when I brought my sister down to see the land we purchased to build our house on. At that time it was as cleared, I glanced towards an area of the creek and there was this huge black hairy thing, it ran up the small hill crouched over and then disappeared in the brush. My sister and I walked over towards that area but there was nothing there by the time we got close enough. We also weren’t able to cross the creek to investigate further.
I identified via map and satellite photos the witness’ closest town of encounter, Schodack, NY… The area is bordered by some small tracts of forest and farmland and is part of a developed section of the Hudson Valley just Southeast of Albany, NY. While an encounter at this location is possible, the likelihood is not very high in my opinion. The forested tracts of land in the immediate vicinity are small and broken up by significant development or large farm fields. Heading east about 15 miles is much better habitat with much larger tracts of forested land as the valley slopes upward into the Taconic Mountain range. The witness refused a request for a face or phone interview or site visit on this encounter. Couple that with the questionable encounter location and I believe this account to be questionable at best and likely not credible.

Assigned Investigator:

Chris Bartow, NESRA Investigator

Investigator Notes::

Close, Inconclusive

Priority Level::

Low – 5 -10 years

Time and Place: Year: 2008 Month: March Time of Day: 3:00 County: New York Rensselaer Conditions: Terrain Description: 5 1/2 acres total, 2 acres cleared 3 1/2 acres wetland with creek, trees, brush Lighting Conditions: Overcast Nearest Town or Landmark: Schodack Description of Encounter Area: not given Are There Food and/or Water Sources in the […]

[32
