My Brother in Law and myself were Hunting Elk on the Thousand Peaks Ranch in the head of Chalk Creek. This is just East of Coalville Utah. We had been down in Dark Canyon for some time, and it was starting to get late. We decided to head up the side of the canyon to the road. This canyon has a series of steps. So as you climb the hill you come onto a flat meadow usually with a Beaver Pond or spring in it. This canyon is full of Pines, and Quaken Aspen. And dence enough that you can seldom see the other side. As we were climbing up about half way up the canyon. We were climbing a small hill that lead into a meadow. As our heads came up over the hill. We both say something jet Black at about 20-30ft to our front Left. This thing was about 5ft-8ft. Or from it’s hips on up. It let out a huge ” Whooof ” sort of sound as it went into the Pines. As it went into the Pines, it moved a Pine bough out of it’s way. I saw part of an arm, and the knee, and calf of it as well. Then about 5 seconds later, it let out a low gutteral growl at us. Both of us talked on the way home how we had an evil feeling come over us. This stand of Pines was in an area of a Beaver Pond, and all of the Quaken Aspen had been chewed down around the Pine Stand.
When this thing growled at us, we backed up and went around the pond to our Right. This happened in 2004, and I can still see this in my head. On our way out we both felt really un-easy. And my Brother in Law asked me what I thought it was. When I heard the growl I honestly thought that it was a Sasquatch.
Because it was to tall to be a Bear or a Moose. And this thing moved very, very fast. I know for a fact that it was on two legs. When I got home I looked on the net to try and read if these things growl. I have found several reports of growling. I have even listened to a recording that sounds like what I heard. I used to work at Lagoon that is an amusement park here in Farmington. I used to feed the animals down there. They had a Leapord that would growl at you when you walked by it’s cage. That sound was almost just what I heard on the Mountain.
I just found out today from an investigator here in Utah. That a Doctor was in the same canyon a week later and said he saw a Sasquatch. But he did not want his report published. Also. That same year I was in an Archery Shop talking to a friend of mine. I started to tell him this story, and before I told him that I had seen a Sasquatch. He interupted me and said that I was the second person he had heard of to have seen one in the same area. But that sighting was to the North in a Ranch known as Anzhutse ( pernounced,,Anshoots )
This was the first incounter that I had of three. The second was when I worked on the Deseret Cattle And Cirtus Ranch in Deer Park Florida. This ranch is over 360,000 acres and has it’s own security force. I was with another Cowboy out in one of the pastures that was about 2000 acres. We were about 2-3 miles away from the nearest road. The other Cowboy was riding along a stream, and I was out riding in the grass. He stopped and got of his Horse and told me to come over. There in the mud was four human, barefoot prints in the mud. They were about 10 inches long, and had long toe nails. I have a photo of one of them. Most of the folks that I worked with on the ranch that had grown up in Florida, had an expeirence with what they called the ” Skunk Ape “. Some would tell their stories while others didn’t want to think about it.
The third one was just last September down on Lagoons trail here in Farmington. Back in 2002 there were several folks that live along the trail that were hearing screams at night coming from the trail area. Three of them went down one night after hearing these screams for several nights. They said that the Buffalo, and the Elk that are in pens in the back of Lagoon. Were all in the corner of there pens storting and looking into the brush ahead of the peaple on the trail. The peaple said that they seen a Huge Black object run into the brush ahead of them on the trail. They said that it scared them enouth that they left. I went down last September at about 1:00A.M. I went down and heard a monkey sound that came from the trees. Also the trees were shaking about.

skies.
Nearest Town or Landmark: Vernal, Utah. 25 miles south. Forest rd off of Route 191. In High Uinta

Description of Encounter Area: Camping at a guard station, my sister and I pitched a tent outside
the cabin. Station in gully is between two hillsides. Approximately 5000 feet in elevation. No one around for miles. We were 5 miles off Route 191 off an unpaved forest road. Guard station. Cows on hillside to left. Stream along left side of station that opens up wider about 100 yards away. Grassy meadow/hill to left of station, hill with mountain sagebrush on it to right. Deer seen daily by station. No one for miles. 5 miles off Route 191.
Food/Water Sources Stream right next to station. deer/elk in area as well as cattle-
large amounts.
Description of Vocalizations: One grunt. It sounded like a bear – may have been but
heard bi-pedal walking immediately following the grunt and it continued for about 10-15 minutes until I shined my light out of the tent to find the source. No other animal sounds were heard from 12am-8am… no birds, no mooing cows, no coyotes – all of which had been previously heard each am. I was wide awake as I had trouble sleeping from the early am grunt/walking and was thinking how oddly quiet it was when I heard 2 whoops – one right after another with a 2-3 second pause between. Sounded exactly like the ‘Sierra Sounds’ CD of Whoops & Knocks. I didn’t realize what I heard until I was on the BFRO website on returning from vacation and played the recording of the whoops & knocks & bi-ped walking
anonymous
Number of Witnesses: 2
Length of Observation: Various points during night and early am
Vocalizations Heard?: No noise was heard… You could here a pin drop – very odd. I heard a
grunt/moan and then bi-pedal walking around tent and guard station. It sounded very BIG. My sister heard this also. Early about 7am, I heard 2 whoops – very clear and very close. My sister was sleeping.
Approximately 12am: I witnessed something moving in the brush, heard a grunt/moan sound lasting 5-10 secs followed by bi-pedal walking with a lot of twigs/branches/leaves snapping and crunching for about 10-15 mins. It stopped when I shined flashlight around perimeter of tent.
Approximately 7am: 2 whoop calls were heard, very clear and very close- maybe 50-100 yards away. Each call lasted about 2 seconds with a 2-3 second pause in between.

[submitted 2/2/2008 by M. Killen]
The reporting witness lives in New England but was on vacation in Utah visiting with her sister, her
brother-in-law and his 10 year old daughter when she had her encounter. The four of them stayed at a U.S. Department of Agriculture guard station in the Ashley National Forest near the Utah-Wyoming border for four days and three nights in the Uinta moutains. The witness and her sister had decided to sleep outside in a tent which set up was next to the cabin. The sisters husband and his daughter slept in the cabin. The tent the two women spent the night in was only about 15 feet from the edge of the woods. Cattle graze in a large open meadow adjacent to the land the cabin sits on which is part of a near by ranch which is comprised of approx 100 acres of land. All of the events described in this report happened during the overnight period of the third night they were at this cabin. The witness estimates that the bi-pedal sounding footsteps came to within 15 feet of the tent but seemed to stay right at the edge of the woods. She said the footsteps seemed to move around the perimeter of the tree line and sounded like they had walked towards and then away from the tent several times.
