It was an early spring morning and I was at my bus stop waiting for the school bus to take me to school. This was either the spring of 2003 or 2004. I was in tenth grade at the time. I tended to go wait for the bus early, so I could listen to the birds and enjoy the sounds of the woods before a stress filled day of highschool. Usually the dogs were outside with me, but this morning they were in the house. We owned about 2 acres at the time and our house was surrounded by the woods with scattered houses around the area. The local conservation club owned a lot of property across the street from us, and the woods behind our house went for miles, and eventually connected with an drained out lake bed, Yankee Lake, that was full of underbrush and saplings at this time. Well the sun was just starting to appear over the horizon, when I heard what can only be described as a roar of sorts. It came from the woods behind my house, which was to the East of me, I was facing the road so my back was turned to the location of the noise. It was some distance away, so after the initial jump and looking around from my stationary position, I dismissed it as nothing. What seemed like 5 minutes passed and the indecent got pushed out of my mind, when from my left I heard a heavy breathing. There was a pine tree and a wire fence thickly grown with some kind of vine, plus thick underbrush. My heart stopped and I could do nothing but just stare at the general area to pin point the location of the noise. But the breathing was so loud that it seemed to come from the entire area. After what seemed like an eternity, it slowly went away. With the threat gone, I got brave and picked up some gravel and threw it in the direction the noise was coming
from. It seemed almost instantly the gravel hit the dead leaves, the breathing returned only louder and faster! This time I didn’t know what to do. I could tell it was something big and was not happy, maybe one of the rocks hit it. This time the breathing stayed. At this point I was lost on what to do, whether I should run back to the house or go down the road and hope the bus picks me up down the road. The breathing sounded similar to a fast Darth Vader and it was so loud. The creature never showed itself, which is good because I was on the verge of freaking out as it was. Then the bus came rolling up the hill and emerged around the bend in the road. I ran to the bus, from my window I still could not see anything thanks to the thickness of the brush.
When I got home I told my parents what happened. My mom said she could tell something did happen fore she has never seen me so scared before. Her and I along with our two labs went into the woods wear the breathing occurred and could not find anything. Granted at the time I did not know what I was looking for. If the breathing was by itself, it would have been marked off as a bear, but the roar type noise that occurred before hand was no black bear. For years I dismissed it as an unknown beast. Then Monster Quest on the History Channel did an episode on the Ohio Grassman, which is a bigfoot like creature. From a  logical point, it is the only creature that makes sense. It was not a bear, nor a whitetail deer, a pheasant, a turkey, or a squirrel. After all of this I started putting some things together. Further back into the woods, to the right of wear the roar noise came from there was a clearing in the larger trees, where there was once again…more thick brush. There was some clearing in the area and While younger and playing in the woods, would often cut threw this area. The dogs on the other hand, who never left me alone in the woods, would never go near this area. They would go way out their way and go around. I can not think of a single time they went by this area of the woods. Which leads me to
wonder why?

It was my 16th birthday and I had decided to have my party in the woods behind my cousins house. We put up a tent and cleared out a fire pit area and brought a small table. My cousin who lived in the house near the wooded area had been telling me about a creature that seemed to like to come close to the house when he would have a bon fire going in the yard. He said he thought he may have seen it once but what really stuck in his head was the sound it made when it was coming close. I wasn’t sure I believed him until around 3 am on the night of my party we were all sitting around the fire just talking and having fun. We began to hear in the far distance a howl/screeching sound. It seemed as though it was winding up and then winding down. It scared us a little at first because it was unlike anything we had ever heard. I had grown up in this area and never heard this before. We became very scared and decided to run to the tent when the sound seemed to be right on us within only a few moments. It just kept making the sound for a few minutes while we huddled in the tent affraid to move. We never did leave the tent until the next morning so we did not notice any smell. At the time I did not think to look for tracks. I have spent many years researching nocturnal animal sounds trying to figure out what
visited us that night. It wasn’t until recently as i was looking up nocturnal animal sounds in Ohio that a search result popped up that said “Big Foot sounds in Ohio”. I clicked on it thinking well this is an avenue I haven’t researched. When I first heard the recording I was completely shocked. Someone else had heard the same sound as me! I was so excited. The first thing I did was contact my cousin and have him listen to it and verify that we heard the same sound. He said definately that was it. Now I can’t wait to move back home which i will be doing this summer. I feel the need to go back to that area and look around. Maybe stay the night out in the woods.

Terrain Description: We were staying at a cabin in Hocking Hills. There were 2 other
cabins nearby, neither were occupied. All 3 cabins sat at the end of a long little one car dirt/rock road that ran parallel to a railroad track. Behind our cabin (The last on the road and closest to the woods and pond.) was a small valley that held a fishing pond. Around the other side of the pond was a short amount of woods that contain the Hocking river. Across the river was road and across it a decent sized “mountainous” area that was covered in woods and likely connected tp nearby state parks and miles of wilderness.

The encounter was of a vocal nature. I’ve neglected to report it for over a year because it didn’t seem very impressive but now I realize that any activities reported can help local investigators so here it is: My two friends and I were staying the weekend in a cabin in the Hocking Hills region of Ohio, in Hocking county. The area has a vast amount of wilderness including, caves, hills, mountains, rivers, lakes and miles of forest.
The 3 of us were seeking a weekend of recreation and relaxation. On the evening of Saturday
September 6th around 7:00 my one friend and I were fishing in the private pond located near our cabin in the vicinity of the Hocking river. As the sun went down and we enjoyed our last 20 minutes or so of fishing we could hear two dogs at opposite ends of the small neighborhood nearby. They continued to bark, seemingly at each other for about 10 minutes until one of them stopped. The other dog, however, seemed to be barking even louder than before and wouldn’t let up. As the sun continued to set and we lost visibility we heard a coyote howl in the distance over the highway and up in the mountain. I know it was coyote because of their distinct vocal characteristics. Then we heard it, a low, powerful howl that came from up in the wooded mountain. The howl or moan would last about 5 or 6 seconds and came in about 7 intervals. This seemed to be what the dog was upset about as it barked aggressively as the howling continued. A few weekends later I caught an episode of MonsterQuest that played a recording from Columbiana county OH. I was shocked at what I heard. It sounded almost exactly like what we heard, right down to the dog barking in the background. It made the hair stand up on my neck when I made the connection. This past September in Huron county OH we heard a similar howl near the town of New London. However, at this point we were very interested and knowledgeable of the Sasquatch subject so perhaps we were hearing “what we wanted to hear” but I think rather that our new knowledge allowed us to recognize the vocalization for what it was.
