Four of us two adults and two children 16 and 17 were hiking on the Lapland Pond trail in the Black
Mountains near Lake George, NY. We were on a three day hiking trip staying at the Lapland Pond lean to and then onto Millman Pond lean to. Our trip started at the trail access at Pike Brook Road trail parking area Friday afternoon Sept 14th, we hiked to the Lapland pond lean to to camp for the night, the weather was warm on Friday and the weather called for a front to pass thru later that night, in the evening the sky got cloudy later that night when the front came thru it had showered at around 2am for about a half hour. In the morning we packed our gear and left for the Millman Pond lean to. As we started out we past the Lapland pond area and headed off the access trail for Millman lean to heading south. It was at this point about a 1/2 mile into the hike we came to a point in the trail where a stream had crossed the trail path.Their was an area in on the trail where the ground was wet an muddy it is here where I noticed a very large footprint in the soft earth on the trail path. As I was in the front of the other hikers we all stopped.I could clearly see toe imprints in the foot print as it appeared to be a right foot based on where the toe was positioned. As we looked around we could see other impressions in the ground most of them were off the trail and in the leaves (woods) beside the hiking trail. From looking at the prints it appears the tracks first start in the woods coming towards the trail almost parallel heading south.at one point the right foot steps onto the muddy area on the trail itself after that their are no other tracks to be found. At this point we decided to take some photo’s of the print the only camera we had were the Iphone . We took several photo in order to get the right angle to be able to get a good shot. As we left the area this was Saturday the 15th we headed for the Millman pond. On our way back on Sunday as we past the area were we found the prints they were still there so I decided to take some more photo with my hiking shoe next to the print for scale. My hiking shoe is 12inches long, the size of
the print was about 15 inches long and about 6 to7 inches wide, the impression in the ground was about an 1 inch deep. You could see where the mud had squeezed up between the toes in the impression. I have one really good photo of the print.

atop the mountian, with many mountian streams. Roundtop is right at the edge of town where the
Beaverkill River runs around one side of it… and on through the Manor right next to Main St.

Witness Overview:

Occupation/Background: Military and civilian aviation since 1974…. with a secondary in security
services since 1978. Have been a “woodsman” all my life and have spent a lot of time in deep woods hunting and camping and am well aware of the wildlife in whatever area that I live.

Encounter::

Number of Witnesses: Shandellee… myself and my parents. Roundtop… myself.
Length of Observation: Both experiences lasted no more than a few minutes.
Animal Description: Shandellee… vocal and very smelly. Roundtop… very vocal.
Aprox. Height: unknown
Aprox. Weight: unknown
Head/Facial Description: unknown
Can Witness Provide a Sketch of Animal Seen?: No
Any Odor? If so, Description: Shandelee… It smelled so bad that it woke my parents and myself out of a dead sleep. I can only describe it as a mix of a wet dog, a skunk, and roadkill. Roundtop… it was further up the mountion and out of smell range.
Vocalizations Heard?: Shandelee… mostly low grunts and mutters. Roundtop… started as low gutteral growl and proceeded to a high pitch scream.
Wood Knocks Heard?: Yes
Physical Evidence? Tree Structures Found
Recordings Made?: No
Shandelee, the fall of 1973… Mind you the road we lived on would become a snowmobile route only during the winter months…. Shandelee had a abundance of wildlife, clear water, and many forms of edible fruit and plants… we had an abandoned apple orchard on both sides of the road next to our home… which the local deer herd frequented often. As a hunter I would run across several Indian stoneworks in the woods in the area. Most were only simple flat flagstone structures. There was one in the woods behind the house in a thirty foot clearing in the woods along a path I took as a shortcut to get to the school bus. This one was different than the other Indian stoneworks… this one was a huge “chair or throne” made from very large flat flagstones. My feet would dangle a few feet off the ground when I sat in it. The seat was probably nearly four foot square and it had large wide arm rests. The back was of one stone and was at least ten foot to its top. When I went back there to the “throne”…. I always had the feeling I was being watched. My mom had a compost pit next to the house, and after having the local critters which included the black bear that lived nearby and the coons and other opportunists constantly take advantage of the goodies in the pit, I put a large flagstone over it. Well that kept the little guys out of it but the bear was able to move the stone… so I put a larger stone and piled more on top of that which finally kept the bear out of it. One fall evening we were sleeping with the windows
open when we were awakened by a terrible stench. I went to the window and heard grunts and
mutters… and smelled the worst smell ever. I could not clearly see in the dark night… but the dark
figure I did see at the pit was much bigger than our smaller black bear “neighbor”. My mom came in to my room at this point and asked if I smelled what she smelled and if the bear was back. I was not about to go out and get a closer look at the creature. When I checked the pit in the morning… the stones were literally tossed away from the pit… the bear would basically “slide” the stone from the pit just enough to stick his paw down into it. After all these years I have thought a lot about that stone throne in the clearing in the woods and have come to the conclusion that the early Indians that lived there on Shandelee Lake built that throne to honor the big hairy creature(s) that lived on the mountiantop with them. I did not think to look around for tracks…. there were no stories and shows like there is today which always talks about tracks. Today it is a given to look for tracks.
Roundtop, the fall of 1973…. One night, my school buddy and myself were going to camp out in his tree fort up the side of Roundtop behind his house. He got in trouble and couldn’t go… so I went up the mountian to camp out by myself. The fort was built right over the trail that led further up the mountian.
That night I heard his dog run up the trial barking like he meant it. Right after that the horses came
running hard down the trail whinnying like they were scared out of the heads. I then heard the strangest animal sound I ever heard. It had to be up the mountian toward the top about 500 yards or so. It started out as a low gutteral growl and progressed into a very high pitched scream… this made every hair on me stand straight up. The dog came running back down the trail after the vocalization…. he was whinning and whimpering and scared to death. I sat up the rest of the night holding a very large iron skillet just in case what ever was up there with me stuck its head up through the entry hole in the floor of the fort. I was familar with the wild cats “screams” which was similar to what I heard, but they would sound more like a baby or a female scream with no very low gutteral growl. A few years later I went to see the movie “The legend of Bogie Creek”. In that movie they supposedly had a actual recording of a Bigfoot scream…. to my discomfort, it sounded exactly like what I heard that night.
For all these years, I always wondered why the Pacific Northwest was the only place where bigfoot was being reported… and was I crazy for thinking I had bigfoot experiences in upstate NY? Then recently I seen where the have had very good sightings in Whitehall NY. Maybe I wasn’t mistaken after all…. I know the Catskills mountians have a abundance of animals, fish, fruit, edible plants, and crystal clear water as well as shelter… enough to easily support any omnivore that lives off the land, heck I could live off what I could gleen from the woods up in those mountians… and have done so on many occations when I camped in caves and hunted or fished for chow. If I could do it…. I’m sure bigfoot could do it.

I was home sleeping as I worked nights at the time, my friend came up to my room and woke me up and was frantic, she said grab your gun and come with me,she didn’t tell me what was the problem till we were driving to the spot, we went into the woods and she brought me to this spot that was unlike anything I have ever seen, I have been shooting scince I was 5 off my uncles lap and been fishing scince I was 3 on pecks lake, been hunting scince I was able to,what I saw defied any logical explination, there were sapplings of iron wood, and ash from 3-5+ inches in diameter that were twisted off about 2-3 inches from the ground, then what ever did this cleared out an area that was at my best guess 25′ by 55′ and used the twisted branches like it was weaving between the saplings it had left standing ,this structure was like a fish trap, that I have seen in multiple survival books, this was not for fish, but rather I think deer, there was a second “fence” if you will running parralell to the inside one with these like jut ins ,and there were jut ins along the outside “fence” that opposed the ones on the inside ,when we got to the spot my friend was very nervous,we smelled this foul pugnent odor that seemed to linger there as we approached the spot it grew stronger,we were there checking it out, when we heard this scream off in the distance and one that seemed a bit closer, that was our cue to skid out,we were both very nervous when leaving having the feeling of being watched by someone or some thing. I will be going in to this spot soon around may first as turkey opens I will not walk into these woods unarmed, my friend
will be bringing his new camera with a very powerful lense, we will try to photograph the spot if it is not over grown there should still be the remnants of the sapling that were twisted off any new info will be conveyed to you thank you for reading my story.

While ascending a tree using a climbing treestand I began to hear something approaching. It was
stomping one foot and stepping normally with the other. It continued this until it got to where I had
came through. It had stopped at my trail. At that point it was dead quiet. I tried to shine my light in that direction but the light would not penetrate that far. I whistled to try to see who was there. At this point it was about 60 yards away. All of a sudden whatever it was started back where it came from while stomping one foot and stepping normally with the other. There were not a lot of branches breaking either. The trees it had come through were pine trees while all the other trees around were hardwoods. I was pretty scared at that point and thought someone was playing a joke on me or trying to scare me.
Alltogether I thought the experience was very strange.
I sent out an email to the witness (Greg ), on this past weekend ( 5-13-2012 ) and received a reply on Tuesday ( 5-15-2012 ). He was quite pleased and surprised, he actually got a reply from NESRA.. so quickly. He had submitted a report with the BFRO (first), and has yet to get a reply. He stated that the “Finding Bigfoot” series got him interested enough, to want to submit his report. He described the incident in more detail, in his email to me. As well as something “stomping” on the game trail at around 5 AM while still dark out, there was an large object tossed his way.. what he thinks was a either a rock or piece of heavy wood, by the sound of it crashing through the trees. He told me, he considered it being a meteor or something natural..more than another human (or creature) being out there at that hour, and throwing something his way. The only thing that presently has me questioning this incident.. is the conflict in the year that this incident happened. In the report, he states it was 1995. When he emailed his response and further details.. he told me he thought it happened in 2002. I have suggested, that we meet sometime for breakfast, and strongly hinted… that I would like to see the area and location this incident happened. At that time (or in future email conversations), I am going to ask him.. again, about the year it happened (casually) and note any reaction (or confusion). Will follow up further, as things hopefully develop. After a few email exchanges with the witness (Greg) .. he is not interested at this time, in meeting with me, or taking me to the location, and told me he will consider it fore the future. He
has agreed to stay in touch, and I encouraged him to join the NESRA forum. That is about all I can really do, at this time… regarding this report.

My 2 brothers and myself were fishing in town (Pottersville). Sun was starting to set. My mother showed up to  return us back home. She asked me if I wanted to put my bike in the trunk of the car, I replied “No” I’ll ride it home. My 2 brothers went with her. As I got to Landing Hill Rd. (which i lived) It’s a long steep paved rd. with no street lights!!And I lived at the top. The sun had set and it was dusk!! And by the time i got to where i encountered this figure, which is approx.1/2 mi. from town. I got this weird feeling something was watching me!!! So being I did’nt want to push my 10 speed bike, i shifted it to first gear!!! very slow but better than walking!! I could see uphead of me about 40′ or so. All of a sudden out of NOWHERE!!!! This Huge Black figure Jumped out in front of me into the center lane!!!! I was appoximately 20′ from IT!!!!! It GRUNTED Something Like “GET OUT OF HERE”??? Very deep grunt!!! SCARED the living S@#T!!!! RIGHT OUT OF ME!!!!! Spun my bike around so fast and hitting every gear i could, I hear this thing which sounded like small rocks hitting the road beside me!!!! Trying not to wreck focused my sight on the solid yellow line!!!! Finally at the bottom of Landing Hill i waited under the streetlight for about 2 hrs. until my dad came looking for me!!! asked me what was wrong!! told him what happened he laughed. Asked me on the way back where i saw this thing!!!! Showed him where!!! So he decides to stop and gets out!!!! He told me nothing could jump to the center lane, the way i explained to him, because there was a bank which was about 15′ to the centerlane with heavy woods. The banks were of dirt and sand. To make matters worse he say’s There’s no Tracks!!!! So needless to say He never believed me!!!!! I KNOW WHAT I SAW!!!!! I never rode my bike or walked up or down this rode at night ever again!!!!! I’ve Told people of my experience and most say If it was bigfoot???? They can’t speak!!!!! WANNA BET!!!!!!!

Commentary from Witness Interview: Witness described head as large and rounded atop a

While breaking the limbs for my fire, I heard a rustle in the underbrush and thought it was a red fox that had visited near my “camp” areas before begging for bits of hot dog. I did not pay much attention to it but then I heard a limb break in response to the one I had broken. I turned, expecting to see one of the other kids that live in the area. I saw, instead, a crouching dark brown, hair-covered figure. At first I thought it was a bear, but it then stood up on two legs. It was at least seven feet tall with long arms and huge “hands” (not paws.) It looked like it had a recent injury to its right leg, as the hair was not as thick and the skin in the area was what looked like to be a dark pink. Its eyes were large with dark brown on black coloring. It seemed more curious than threatening, but at 16, I was scared. We both heard what sounded like an ATV and it turned its head in the direction of the sound. The face profile hand a blunt nose and a protruding chin and brow. I think it growled or grunted at the sound and then looked back at me then started off at a quick pace up the hill toward a denser area of trees. It became obvious it was a
male as it left, as identifiable anatomy was present.

Investigator Commentary from Witness Interview:
Witness estimated the time of encounter somewhere between 3-10 minutes and said he was very
unnerved about sighting and with adrenaline rushing, couldn’t say for sure exactly how fast things
happened.
Witness indicated his purpose at the encounter location was to do some hiking and wildlife watching as well as search for some caves rumored to be in the area. The greater area around this location is noted for its numerous caves and caverns (some of which can be toured commercially at Howe Caverns or Secret Caverns.) The witness said he was (and still is) a spelunker and was looking for caves in this area that were rumored to exist from various acquaintances he spoke with. No one he spoke with had been to these caves nor could confirm the exact location of them, so he was scouting the area. Witness never did find the caves. He started hiking in the AM and planned to build a makeshift lean-to/campsite for the evening and cook some hot dogs for dinner and retire.
Witness said the creature approached his campsite from the woods and made snapping sounds that got louder on approach. Witness estimated the approach lasted approximately 5 minutes and he initially thought the approach sounds/branch snaps were from a “friendly” fox, deer or possibly another human. Witness was snapping gathered branches in preparation of starting a fire in the fire ring for cooking. After the approach sounds stopped, witness began to hear branch snapping mimicry at close range – witness would snap a branch and then hear something do the same almost immediately. After a few mimic snaps, witness became intrigued and looked to right of fire pit in a westerly direction to where he was hearing the mimicking snaps and saw the creature crouched at about 10 – 20 ft. away. Creature was partially obscured from witness, crouched behind large a large oak or maple tree trunk.
Witness said creature stood up as soon as he spotted it. Both the witness and creature stood and
observed each other intently for a period of time.
Additional Creature Description Details:
Witness said creature stood with its left arm up holding on to tree branch above it and right arm
hanging by its side. Witness indicated the arms of creature were unusually long (compared to a human). Witness described creature had what looked like a healing injury on its right leg just below knee. Witness described the area as a patch without complete hair and pinkish scar. Witness described normal skin of creature was much darker – see blow.
Hair on Creature: Witness described the creature’s coat was definitely more hair-like than fur-like and hair was fairly clean with little matting.
Color: Brown with auburn highlights
Hair described as having a “nice sheen”
Hair density described as heavy on the arms and legs and long in these areas (3-4″ in length)
Hair density described as thinner on the chest and shorter in these areas (1-2″ in length)
Hair on back of feet and hands very thin and none on palms or on foot pads. Hair was thin
around face and portions of chest.
Witness described the hair around the face and ears was more “silky” than the hair atop the head and said the hair on top blended down the back with the back hair. He described an indent were the head hair ended at the neck and the back hair started. The hair on head seemed shorter than on back and not as thick and closer to the skin whereas the back hair seemed a bit “shaggy”.
Hands & Feet: Witness described the creature’s feet looked like “furry slippers” with no hair on bottom or edges and feet skin appeared calloused and thick. Witness described hands as large with clearly- defined opposable thumbs and “leathery” palms. Witness noted the thumb appeared longer than a human’s proportionally and described the thumbs as “more elongated”. Witness said hair on back of hands and feet was less dense and thick than other parts of body and there appeared to be no hair on palms or on the foot pads or edges of feet. Skin: Witness described skin color on most of body, feet and hands as very dark dark brown to charcoal. Witness described skin tone of face as a “sandalwood dark brown”. Eyes: Witness described eye color as “dark brown or black-on-black” with no discernible whites in the eyes noticeable. Witness said that this characteristic of the eyes was particularly unnerving.
Locomotion and Gait: Witness described creature’s gait as a forward-leaning, gliding motion like a
cross country skier. Witness noted that the hill on which the creature retreated was very steep (45-50 degree angle) with loose rock and branches. Witness said he was intrigued with the ease and speed with which the creature traversed this difficult terrain without the need to hold on to trees as it moved or the fact that it never slipped and lost its footing. After the ATV was heard, the creature vocalized/grunted and turned northerly and retreated up the hill towards a thicker patch of woods. Witness said as the creature retreated, it stepped over an old 4′-high pasture rock wall with ease. At the time the ATV was heard, witness noted that animal had to turn its head and upper torso as it turned in direction of the sound – it did not turn its neck independently.
Vocalization: Witness described that the creature “grunted” at the sound of an ATV approaching and described the grunt as a deep, bass-y, gruff grunt that lasted 1-2 seconds long. Witness characterized it as a seemingly “annoyed grunt”.
Additional Notes:
Post-Encounter: Immediately after creature retreated, witness said he grabbed his gear and ran out of the area. Witness said he lost a hatchet and a emergency blanket in the rush leaving and never found them when he returned to area. Witness said he was partly getting away from the creature and also trying not to been seen by the people on the ATV.
Witness said he knows of no other encounter reports in his immediate area, but did say he has heard of reports from neighboring counties (Otsego, Schenectady, Albany).
Witness also said, around time of encounter, there was a rash of activity that many locals were
attributing to a nefarious black bear. Most notably, a local farmer’s grain silo had been broken
into/damaged and grain feed stolen and/or consumed. Also, he was hearing complaints from
friends/acquaintances about animal traps (mostly rabbit snares) being raided – the snared animals taken and traps torn up.
Witness also noted that his dog, a medium sized shepherd mix, began behaving oddly for a few days before and a few weeks following the incident and would not leave his yard and refused to enter the wood line behind his house as the animal had always done .

Witness Overview:

Occupation/Background: I am a private investigator and also author of, The Farm. I have vacation
property in Warrensburg, NY, and ever since I was young, the man who would take care of our property,
Mr. Blake, would tell me of his Bigfoot encounter. I wrote a fictional novel based on his experience, and
added my own imagination to it to make it a murder mystery, but ever since the publication of my book,
more sightings in that area have been reported. My book was self-published, but sells in many of the
stores in the Lake George/Bolton Landing region as well as on the internet. I would like to think these
sightings are real and not a hoax, and not just coincidental or ideal because my book came out. The last
sighting was over a month ago in that area, and the witnesses were a 10 and 12 year old boy. I, myself,
have not seen Bigfoot, but keeping my eyes open. www.shannonwallacenovels.com
