Loud knocking coming from our side of the pond and the other side. Heard a heavy bodied animal

Vocalizations Heard?: A series of loud growl/ cries. Hard to describe but couldnt match the
vocalization to any sound clips of local animals.
Wood Knocks Heard?: Yes

My friend and I were awoken about midnight by a loud seiries of knocks and loud vocalizations. We both stayed silent, and were a tad frightened. The brush was cracking, and loud steps came close to our camp. Another one of the animals could be heard on the other side of the pond knocking on ocassions, and vocalizing. We listened until they were far off in to the woods. Neither of us slept well that night. The next morning we heard knocking far off.
