I was hiking in the Adirondacks alone just to get away from everyday activities. I was just scouting
around the state land and came into an area with tall pines that looked like an old stand that had been planted not wildly grown. I smelled something that wasn’t right with the pine smell that usually
acompanies a grove of pines. It smelled of a musty cellar or a stagnant swamp. Then I noticed someone walking away from me about 30 yards away. Only the someone was very tall and covered with brownish hair. It walked hunched over with long swinging arms and at least a 4 foot stride. I whistled to it and it just kept moving, never looking back. I immediately followed it to look for tracks but the dry grounds and pine needles yielded no impressions. I would have followed it further but wasn’t armed at the time and wasn’t taking any chances.
