1st time ever was in Mount Holly alongside route 103 just above
Bursaws old dance hall, that was converted into apts where we lived is an old section of 103 that goes along the river for say 3/4 of a mile. Actually it is called Bowling green on a map, just south of East Wallingford, if you head south on route 103 you will see and old section of route103 that follows the river that is now a drive to a bunch of homes that are now there. It was in the summer around 7pm before sunset we (mom, Jon, James & I) decided to go for a bike ride down this old road we did thousands of times before. So this time my brother told us that we could pedal to the bottom of our yard and had to coast all the way down to the old train depot by the pond on the north end of the property. I was in last position when we were almost to the opening to the pond my mother slammed on her brakes and my brothers followed suite. I lifted my head above the handle bars to see it standing in the road. It had something in its arms. We came to within 20 feet of it. It bolted down across the river embankment and across the river and up through the open hardwoods into the thick pine area in a blink of an eye. We pedaled back home as fast as we could and told our dad, only to think we were joshing him until mom also told him. I think its vision off to the side may be lacking or because we were coasting almost silent less, it never knew we were coming in the 1st place. It had to be at least 8-9 feet tall and this one was thick bodied from the shoulders to the feet, its legs were as round as the upper body. The river was about 3 feet deep where it crossed, like it was a trickle, I remember picking blackberries in the same
area where this was standing, just a few days prior.
