Conditions:

Terrain Description: We were staying at a cabin in Hocking Hills. There were 2 other
cabins nearby, neither were occupied. All 3 cabins sat at the end of a long little one car dirt/rock road that ran parallel to a railroad track. Behind our cabin (The last on the road and closest to the woods and pond.) was a small valley that held a fishing pond. Around the other side of the pond was a short amount of woods that contain the Hocking river. Across the river was road and across it a decent sized “mountainous” area that was covered in woods and likely connected tp nearby state parks and miles of wilderness.
Lighting Conditions: It was dusk.

The encounter was of a vocal nature. I’ve neglected to report it for over a year because it didn’t seem very impressive but now I realize that any activities reported can help local investigators so here it is: My two friends and I were staying the weekend in a cabin in the Hocking Hills region of Ohio, in Hocking county. The area has a vast amount of wilderness including, caves, hills, mountains, rivers, lakes and miles of forest.
The 3 of us were seeking a weekend of recreation and relaxation. On the evening of Saturday
September 6th around 7:00 my one friend and I were fishing in the private pond located near our cabin in the vicinity of the Hocking river. As the sun went down and we enjoyed our last 20 minutes or so of fishing we could hear two dogs at opposite ends of the small neighborhood nearby. They continued to bark, seemingly at each other for about 10 minutes until one of them stopped. The other dog, however, seemed to be barking even louder than before and wouldn’t let up. As the sun continued to set and we lost visibility we heard a coyote howl in the distance over the highway and up in the mountain. I know it was coyote because of their distinct vocal characteristics. Then we heard it, a low, powerful howl that came from up in the wooded mountain. The howl or moan would last about 5 or 6 seconds and came in about 7 intervals. This seemed to be what the dog was upset about as it barked aggressively as the howling continued. A few weekends later I caught an episode of MonsterQuest that played a recording from Columbiana county OH. I was shocked at what I heard. It sounded almost exactly like what we heard, right down to the dog barking in the background. It made the hair stand up on my neck when I made the connection. This past September in Huron county OH we heard a similar howl near the town of New London. However, at this point we were very interested and knowledgeable of the Sasquatch subject so perhaps we were hearing “what we wanted to hear” but I think rather that our new knowledge allowed us to recognize the vocalization for what it was.
