July 17,1977 0230 am Owassa Road off Rt 206 near Cluvers Lake,NJ.I was traveling back from the Dover Station after picking up some Camp Councilers we just turned off of Rt 206 onto Owassa Rd heading west no more than abt 15 min, a small car also traveling in front or us when the Creature walking upright came out of the high grass on the left and stepped into the road,it stood 3 feet higher than the roof of the car that was in front of us,the creature turned its head and looked in my direction,it’s eye’s shined in my headlights. I jamed on the breaks startleing my passanges who were sitting in the back, Fished aroung for a flashlight and Me and my front passanger friend jusped out of the van, by that time time in went into the high brush along the mountain, the two of us tried to follow looking for tracks in the dark, came back to the van and started to discuss what just happened. We flagged down the next car and tried to speak to the motorist who wasn’t interested in what we had to say and left quickley.
Upon arriving at Camp I telephoned the State Police “who asked what bar we were in?” I explained our sighting, finally spoke to someone who knew of sightings in the area and He would file a report. The Next day when I called the State Police no report had been filed.
March 28,1978 I lead a group of friends into the area of the sighting and found several tracks in the snow,I took a photo with my foot along side for reference, the tracks seem to go deep into the Bear swamp ,it was getting dark and we went back ,I didn’t want to get lost at night.
I know the backwoods of Northern NJ ,I’ve backpacked the AT and Canoed the Delaware River and spend much of my free time up in thoes woods along Old Mine Road,I’ve fished the Ponds and creeks and know ther is pleanty of wilderness for a creature to rome between states of NJ,Penna & NY . I’m now disabiled and can walk no more (not much anyway). I travel up in the woods now as much as i can ,still looking and listening for that next encounter.
